ZF Devco and RGoV Announce Partnership for New Ferry Terminal Development

ZF Devco and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (RGoV) unveil partnership for the development of the Passenger and RoRo Ferry Terminal in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

ZF Devco B.V., representing an international consortium of Dutch and Tanzanian companies, and the Zanzibar Ports Corporation (ZPC) have joined forces to embark on a groundbreaking initiative for the development of a new Passenger and RoRo (Roll-on Roll-off) Ferry Terminal in Maruhubi, Zanzibar. The signing ceremony was presided over by the President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi.

The first phase of the Zanzibar Ferry Terminal development, estimated to cost USD 250 million, will focus on the marine infrastructure and terminals. Later phases, requiring additional investments of USD 100 to 150 million, will include a Special Economic Zone, hospitality, retail, logistics, offices, and an Expo Hall for trade exhibitions and conferences.

On behalf of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Dr. Khalid Salum Mohamed, the Minister of Infrastructure, Communication, and Transport, emphasized the project's role in unlocking the wider potential of Zanzibar's maritime transport, aligning with the Blue Economy vision of President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi.

At the event, Zanzibar Ports Corporation (ZPC) Director General, Mr. Akif Ali Khamis, highlighted the strategic importance of the Zanzibar Ferry Terminal development, supporting the government's plans to unlock the Blue Economy and enhance the passenger experience.

The Maruhubi project, situated north of Stone Town, covers 34 hectares. ZF Devco is dedicated to leaving a positive legacy, fostering economic growth, protecting the environment, and enhancing the quality of life for all in Zanzibar.
